Italy, Switzerland & Bad Drivers

After being given the full diagnosis in the landy we had to make do without it for a while so after meeting up with some old friends at pescara airport, Italy, we headed down the east coast of Italy. Complete with hire car (a funky little Fiat Uno with a dodgy registration plate that looked suspiciously like 'botty boys' – according to mike!!) We stopped at a few campsites and worked on our tans (except for Gav who after 3 weeks still blends easily onto any white background), while Land Rover Switzerland worked on the landy.

The team split up for a while with Gav checking on the progress of landy and a hair raising excursion to see Pompeii complete with Italian drivers and mad road signs. It was here that we acquired our first parking fine, but being unable to understand any Italian beyond ' two beers please' it was disregarded as merely a polite notice and was relegated to the rubbish bin. Dan and Mike in the mean time were carrying out a thorough investigation of the local 'wine' (read plonk) scene.

On the way back to get Landy met up with Scally (Maximus Scalius) and Matty (Maximus Happius) in Milan where they were holidaying like a married couple. Ended up going to see AC Milan play which was cool in itself, but walking up to the stadium and meeting very good friends was a great pleasure. Matty was wearing a natty little combination number and looked like something out of the Godfather. Scally was his usual self, dressed to kill (surely gay!!?) and had the air of an Italian with not a care in the world. Bunked in their hotel room for the evening, which was a laugh and did the great escape in the morning so we didn't have to pay extra.

Was amazingly lucky to walk into Jenny at Zurich train station and was treated to yet another night on the lash with her and her friend. The next night we stayed at Hotel de Marc yet again and went out with him and Stevie to yet more Zurich bars.

We eventually managed to meet up again in Italy, complete with a brand spanking new engine and minus a great deal of financial resources. It was like a scene from a bad movie with Gav arriving to a welcome that should only really be saved for female friends. Dan was almost in tears as he choked out the words! "I never thought I would see you again" this at the time was very touching, but thinking back it was just that Dan and Mike had spent far to much time together?

The drive down from Switzerland was amazing, the scenery was fabulous and every time I stopped people came over to look at Landy, one guy in particular took great interest and even did a sort of photo shoot with me desperately trying not to laugh. It took a best part of a day and to be honest I was literally dead on arrival.

We now had the simple task of getting Mike to Athens in time for his Thursday flight.

(Thanks to Peter for picking us up at a set of traffic lights and housing and feeding us for the night).
