The Quest to Fix the Land Rover - Gavin Davidson

Having sent Dan off to his luxury accommodation Wouter and I decided to relax at the Luxury 6 star hotel at Kleins Camp. The staff were absolutely fabulous and made us 2 scruffy individual welcome (so this is a big thank you to them). After 2 days of fraught negotiations with the local police (ie 10 dollars) I headed to Arusha in a Land Rover minus windscreen and roll bar, travelling at warp factor 6 with the craziest driver I have ever known. Arriving in Arusha I got settled in a hotel/brothel and thought that maybe 1 beer in the bar was in order. 6 hours later, after games of pool with Masai warriors in full battle dress (and mobile phone) and numerous propositions from dodgy women claiming they loved me, I staggered to bed with a vague recollection of meeting the "warriors" tomorrow for a session.

The next day I was woken by my mad mechanic friend and we proceeded to find a place to fix landy after meeting up with Walter again I managed to finally get a night in the penthouse suite (walts rooftop tent) and the next day headed for Nairobi.

Seeing Dan was a great relief and I was mightily impressed of how he had settled into his new lifestyle of demi god of the Macmillan ward complete with doting nurses and 6 meals a day.

Very luckily we had been given an emergency contact in Nairobi from my next door neighbour, and Pete and Tikki kindly put me up at their (very nice) house. The next week was taken up with seeing Dan and getting totally trashed at Petes Rugby club and house, with some mad excursions to various locations around the city. A huge thank you therefore to Pete, Tikki and Georgie, I hope that one day I can repay even a fraction of your kindness and support.

Gav, 22nd Feb. Arusha, Tanzania
